Manda Island, Lamu, Kenya
Amani House
A peaceful island retreat where Swahili hospitality meets the Indian Ocean.
Manda Island, Lamu
A peaceful retreat, two minutes from nowhere.
Amani House sits quietly on Manda Island, reached by a twenty-minute speedboat crossing from the airstrip — close enough to Lamu's Old Town to feel its history, far enough to hear only the ocean.
The house stands a short walk along the beach from its nearest neighbour, wrapped in the same coral-stone-and-palm landscape that has shaped this coastline for centuries. Here, days are set by the tide and the call to meals rather than a schedule — a house run by a full team, in service of doing very little at all.

The House
Designed for slow island living.
Amani House is made up of two houses on the same plot — a main residence and a smaller guest house — so a family or group of friends can spread out without ever leaving the property.

The Main House
Five spacious bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom, gather around a swimming pool, an intimate indoor kitchen and dining area, and a wide open terrace that looks straight out over the Indian Ocean.
- 5 spacious bedrooms, each en suite
- Sleeps up to 10 guests
- Swimming pool
- Indoor kitchen & dining area
- Open terrace, full ocean view
The Guest House
A smaller, more intimate house set apart from the main residence — a spacious bedroom alongside a generous master bedroom, ideal for extended family or a second travelling party.

Experience Lamu
Beyond the house, an archipelago waits.
Every experience nearby carries the same unhurried, Swahili character as the house itself.

Lamu Old Town
A UNESCO World Heritage town of coral-stone houses and carved doors, alive with centuries of Swahili culture, just a boat ride from the house.

Donkey Sanctuary
Lamu's donkeys have carried the town for generations — this sanctuary cares for them and welcomes visitors to meet them up close.

The Lamu Museum
A quiet afternoon spent among exhibits on Swahili maritime history, craftsmanship and coastal trade.

Dhow Sailing
Traditional wooden dhows carry guests out across the channel — an easy, unhurried way to see the archipelago, in the company of Swahili culture and custom.

Kipungani on Foot
A walk along the beach to Kipungani at the far end of Manda Island, for guests who want to explore the coastline at their own pace.

Sailing to Manda Toto
A picnic sail out to Manda Toto island, set in the clear waters of the Lamu archipelago.

Takwa Ruins
The 15th-century ruins of a Swahili settlement, reached by a slow, scenic boat journey of about 20 minutes.

Dining at Amani
Meals, kept to island time.
Amani House is fully staffed with its own chef, and meals are prepared and served in the house at set times each day.
